There is something to be said for hanging around a Suburban, dead leaves on the ground, the smell of the burgers grilling in the background – and the stogies lighting up. There’s something to be said for five red and black
foldable chairs – and the one bug fan sitting in a green one. There’s something to be said for cruising Broad Street in Athens, looking for anything that will give us a TV signal so my pal can see the FSU/FL game, and then when all hope is lost – finding it on the radio.
There’s something to be said for hanging with five of my best pals in the world – brothers in Christ – men who love their wives and families – who seek to honor the Lord in all that they do – men who I would leave my children with instantly and without question or fear – men who love the Dawgs, ‘Noles, Ducks and Bugs with passion.
There’s something to be said for five wives that would give up a Saturday – so that the fellas could hang out and watch some football.
There’s something to be said for late whistles and missed pass interference calls and a seven minute drive that takes the ball to the house with just under two to play.
There’s something to be said for Reggie Ball – suitin up in the bug yella – but playing like he’s wearing red and black.
To these things, I say this: Thank You Father, for giving me life – and blessings – for each of these things is such – and such blessings – I am not worthy of. May the joy that we get from these things be a joy because of who we are in Christ – and may we reflect the radiance of your beauty and grace – as we enjoy this life that You have given. All good things come from You.
And all these things are good, fellas.
