David Ching is the Georgia Bulldog beat writer for the Columbus newspaper – well, I think that is what you would call him. Anyhow, he augments his newspaper writing with a blog on the Georgia Bulldogs. It is usually very informative during the football season for all things Georgia Football. I would encourage you to read it and his articles when they are posted. ![]()
This past week, he posted a blog with some odd statistics from the AU-UGA rivalry over the years. Very, very interesting. Indeed – this is the oddest of series, and, despite Auburn’s rivalry with instate foe Alabama – and Georgia’s rivalry with instate foe Georgia Tech…. you know, I just feel kind of silly calling Georgia Tech a foe… so… despite these rivalries, the AU-UGA rivalry is billed as the Deep South’s Oldest, dating back to 1892 (that’s 115 years ago, for all you non-engineering types). ![]()
I first attended a AU-UGA game in 1981, with my pretty much life-long friend Chris Parmer. His parents are Auburn Alums and they knew that I was a big DAWG fan, so we loaded up in their Cessna and flew to Athens for the game. It was a great time! I remember Herschel Walker doing lots of running – gaining many yards. I also remember intoxicated Georgia Fans sitting on the grass hill next to the visitor’s section (I had to sit amongst a bunch of War Eagle, Plainsmen Tigers) throwing grass on us in derision of all things AU and in celebration of the DAWGS ultimate 24-13 victory. Back then, I was only a little less obnoxious about Georgia Football than I am now – so is it any surprise that Chris’ dad threatened to make me fly home on the wing of the Cessna. ![]()
With all that said, I am feeling froggy, so here goes the Bulldawgy prediction:
Georgia wins 27-17.
Go Dawgs!! ![]()
