The Rock That Shelters me

Some people grow up on their own. When the strong winds of life blow, they pull their coat over their head (assuming they have one) and they plow forward. Hopefully they come out on the otherside of the storms, weather beaten – but standing. Some get swept off of the road never to regain their footing.

Praise be to God, who is my Rock and my Shelter when the wind begins to blow.

Hear my cry, O God,
listen to my prayer;
from the end of the earth I call to you
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.

Psalm 61:1-3

Often times, God uses people in our lives as means of shelter for us. Shelter from Him, provided by His saints. What a great blessing that is to have those believers to provide us the loving blessing of fellowship in Christ.

You are the primary means of shelter and refuge for your children – a means of grace, used by the Father in the precious lives of little ones entrusted to you by Him. Pray for them, teach them, protect them. They need you.

Don’t Kid Yourself

To all my frustrated conservative brethren, especially those who chatted by the kid’s slide yesterday – I offer up this fine article by Bill Kristol. Don’t kid yourself – there is a big difference between John McCain and the future democrat candidate. A snippet from Mr. Kristol:

“But I’d say this to them: When the primaries are over, if McCain has won the day, don’t sulk and don’t sit it out. Don’t pretend there’s no difference between a candidate who’s committed to winning in Iraq and a Democratic nominee who embraces defeat. Don’t tell us that it doesn’t matter if the next president voted to confirm John Roberts and Samuel Alito for the Supreme Court, or opposed them. Don’t close your eyes to the difference between pro-life and pro-choice, or between resistance to big government and the embrace of it.

And don’t treat 2008 as a throwaway election. If a Democrat wins the presidency, he or she will almost certainly have a Democratic Congress to work with. That Congress will not impede a course of dishonorable retreat abroad. It won’t balk at liberal Supreme Court nominees at home. It won’t save the economy from tax hikes.”

Well said, Mr. Kristol.
